We held our annual Open Day on the 28th, in spite of the hot weather the turn out was brilliant with all courts being used, with tennis, pickle-ball and even table tennis (although it was a bit windy!)
Thanks to everyone who came along to support the day and show what a great club we have.

On Sunday 18th May we ran our Double Tournament, The Morris and Mayors. A ladies and men's doubles event run simultaneously.

This year we had a VE Day theme, with everyone wearing red, white and blue. A great day of tennis with our winners being, Jan and Fran for the ladies and Floyd and Tyler for the men. (Our runners up, a very close second place for the ladies were Anita and Liz. Not quite such a close result for the men, but Cesar and Greg put up a good fight!

The Ogley Cup was held on 13th April. We had a great afternoon with 20 players having our "speed-dating" tennis afternoon, where every lady plays with every gentleman. It was a tight result, but the winners were Sue H (playing as a man due to more ladies entering) and Vicki D. We had three runners up, Fran, Lesley and Krish.
We also welcomed Sam and Axel, two of our junior members to the event who played really well with Axel coming 3rd in the men's group!

We also had a presentation for Chris Kimberley and Anwen Jones who after many years were stepping down from the committee. Huge thanks to both of them for all the time, commitment they have put into the club over the years. Some very large shoes to try and fill.

Should anyone be interested in taking over as treasurer please let any of us on the committee know!.

We held our AGM on 17th March, St Patricks Day, which was fantastically attended, so many thanks to all who were able to make it. We were able to have some robust and challenging discussions around how the club will progress during 2025/26 while considering the challenges we face.

We were also delighted to welcome Ed, Anita and Tyler to the committee while
thanking Chris and Anwen for the years of support to BTC as they step down.

We also used the opportunity to extend the AGM into a social evening and have our annual presentation evening with home cooked food from our chairman, while raising some funds for his London Marathon entry for Prostate Cancer UK.

To end the year we held the annual Christmas fancy dress tournament!. As ever our members went over and above to show off their creative skills and to have a brilliant afternoon of tennis and Christmas fare.
Congratulations to our winners, Chris, Ali, Krishna & Tyler, and not forgetting Liz and Gary for our best dressed competitors!
Thanks also to Dympna, Jon and Una for organising and managing the event - and of course to everyone who were able to join in and make the day so enjoyable.

On the 29th we held our annual Open Day organised by Microsports. It was a brilliant day with almost 50 adults and children attending for the afternoon to join in with activities and games to showcase what a great sport tennis is - but more importantly everything we at Boldmere can offer.

We had a couple of new junior members sign up there and then with others who will initially join the Saturday coaching to start to rebuild our junior groups.

Thanks to Paul, Yasmin and Dave for all their efforts and those of our brilliant members who were able to join in and help out making the day such a success.

We had a full on weekend of tennis at Boldmere. There was the Rogers Cup, with 5 pairs plating an American style tournament. After 64 games, the runners up were Chris Sheldrick and Rob Guest, with our winners being Jan Baker and Tyler Platt.

On Saturday we hosted a juniors U16 tournament with players from Boldmere, Bishop Walsh, Little Aston and Water Orton. Congratulations to all that took part but to Water Orton who triumphed overall.

Christmas Tournament

The last event of the year was a great success, some fabulous tennis even in some sunshine!, Christmas treats and even a quiz, fantastically organised by June and Phil.

A great way to end the year! We wish everyone a very happy Christmas and New Year!

Presentation Evening

Last night we held our Annual Presentation Evening at Sutton Golf Club, another great event organised by Anwen, with as usual much support from others (not least Pete for ensuring all the trophies were sparkling!)

Sue H gave a fantastic send off to Steve M, who is now living in Wales, he has been a huge influence on making BTC the success it is, as well as being the "ball monitor". He will be greatly missed, but we are assured he will be making a few guest appearances to keep in touch with us.

Jan was also able to announce that Flair Windows has agreed to sponsor the club and more specifically Winter League. This will mean that we can revert back to the original cost of the tokens for the floodlights countering the huge increase in the cost of the electricity to the club. Thanks must be given to Steve Hughes for being able to arrange for this deal through his contacts!

Aug 23                                                                                         Vincent Classic
In spite of the recent weather, the rain held off and we had 7 pairs entering the Vincent                                                                                                   Classic Tournament. This is the one for our senior members as it's for the over 60's.                                                                                                         That didn't deter some great play this afternoon in the sunshine.
Congratulations to or winners June and Tim.

It's been a few years since we ran this event, but it's an afternoon of fun with our senior                                                                                                   members partnering a junior to have an afternoon of doubles.

A fantastic afternoon with Cesar and Isaac being our worthy winners!

Jun 23                                                                                          Roger Cup
Unfortunately this year the Rogers Cup was cancelled due to low numbers entering.                                                                                                       Hopefully we'll be able to run it next year as it it a great tournament.

Well done to Jan and Floyd for winning the first tournament of the year. It was                                                                                                                    another great afternoon of tennis, with a combination of ladies and mixed play. It was                                                                                                      a bit chilly but the rain kept off, and the afternoon tea made it all worth while!

We also used the event to raise some money for the British Heart Foundation in                                                                                                                 memory of Darrin Gamble and will be donating £70 from the entry fees.

Aug 22                                                                                           Goodbye to Gillian
Although Gillian had only been with the club a couple of years she had always been                                                                                                        there supporting all our events and tournaments and a stalwart of the Monday coffee                                                                                                      mornings. Sadly she is leaving us and moving to Glasgow, so we gave her a real BTC                                                                                                      send off, fantastically organised by June and Una. She has promised once settled in a                                                                                                    new club to invite us up so Boldmere hopefully will be on tour !

We had a great evening with                                                                                                      Jubilee Themed night of fun and games with the juniors and parents and a few                                                                                                                members who turned up to join in. We were lucky with the weather and were able to                                                                                                      have the planned BBQ too. All those juniors who attended were given a souvenir                                                                                                              Platinum Jubilee medal.

Players Neil Pauffley                                                                                                           and Patrick Foley both world ranked, displayed Wimbledon & Grand Slam standard                                                                                                         tennis to an enthralled audience of members and the local community.

Neil has also recently been supporting Emma Raducanu as a hitting                                                                                                                 partner during the pandemic to support her continued development, while Patrick                                                                                                           returned for our event after playing in Portugal at the ITF Championships.

Neil eventually                                                                                                                     triumphed after two hard fought sets.

After the showcase event, two lucky prize-winning spectators were picked to play a                                                                                                       doubles match with the professionals. One of our own talented juniors Ellis Mills                                                                                                               didn’t let the club down, showing some real skills and enthusiasm. Although being                                                                                                           runner-up, it will be an experience he’ll never forget.

Will Thorley club professional coach and organiser of the event was delighted that                                                                                                         the day was so successful, “giving a real Wimbledon experience, with such high-                                                                                                             quality players, ball boys & girls and an umpire, hopefully it’s something we can                                                                                                               repeat next year”

March 2021
In preparation for the start of play as we come out of the Covid restrictions, we've had the bottom courts treated for moss and brushed, while the top courts have undergone a major makeover and have been cleaned and repainted.

We've also had some great publicity through Will Thorley and local radio, with interviews with our members. Thanks to those contributing and getting up early for the interview!

Some of our media reports, great promotion for the club and our brilliant coach!

18th October 2018

We held another successful Annual Presentation Evening on Saturday 18th October with many of our club winners receiving their trophies.

We also held a raffle and quiz in support of a local group Rowangarth Day Centre that has operated in Erdington since 2008, providing a high level of services for adults with a disability or learning difficulties. They also provide care for adults with Early Onset Dementia and more importantly support to one of our former members.

We were delighted to raise £240 and present the cheque to Chris Braniff
